If you haven’t realized yet, we are all about making our RV as cozy as possible. Of course we like to go ALL IN on holidays. Here are some practical, creative, and festive ideas for bringing the holidays alive in your home on wheels. Grab a cup of cocoa and turn on some Christmas tunes.
The Tree:
We love an enormous tree that feels like a real home, but there is not really a way to fit a big tree in the small space we have. SO, we do keep a pencil tree that is 7 ft tall and fits our space perfectly with the star on top. We have a fifth wheel and tall ceilings, but if you measure your space you will find a pencil tree actually works for most RVs. You can see we could definitely go taller in the photo above. If you dont have the space, you can get a table top tree to look beautiful. Another idea we love, is buying a potted tree that can be planted outside after the holidays. Some people buy the real tree and leave it outside the front door instead of decorating one indoors if they dont have space. Be sure to secure your tree for travel. We do have a small chain/ bungee that holds our pencil tree in place during travel.
Wreaths and Garland:
We like fresh, fragrant decor around the holidays. You can find pine wreaths and cedar garland at Costco or other garden stores. We love that these hold up for about a month and will decompose when we are done with them. My favorite way to decorate our slides is by draping the trim with garland and then hanging some lights through them. The garland does shed throughout the month, but we find this small inconvenience totally worth it. You can also make a citrus or popcorn garland for the fireplace, they look amazing. We haven’t tried this because we have two pets that would likely go after those.
Ornaments and Tree Skirt:
We kept our family ornaments for our tree when we moved into the RV and they have held up pretty well. Some RVers like to purchase ornaments for all the places they visit. Our recommendation when decorating is to wrap the ornament hook around the tree limb to prevent any of the ornaments from falling when you move. The skirt is folded and saved for the next year.
Other decorations:
We usually make an advent chain our of construction paper and paper snowflakes for our windows. Homemade crafts that can be remade each year is a wonderful way to save space. You can use everything from pine cones, to acorns, or construction paper. When we do buy other decor, its with the hope that it can be stored very small and reused the next year.
This may seem like a lot of decorations for our small home, but traditions are fun and don’t need to be stopped because you live tiny. We wish you a beautiful holiday season and cannot wait to see what you have done with your RV decor. Please share your ideas with us.
