Can you imagine spending three months on a beautiful Greek Island with a group of other Boundless Life families? This curated community of digital nomad families is such a unique concept. Our family just spent the past 7 years traveling North America in our RV, but we finished exploring the lower 48 states and are ready to see more of this beautiful world. We were ready to branch out to other continents with hopes to see the world, live like locals, and find community along the way. Boundless seems to solve all the problems for digital nomad families. When you first think about Greek Islands, you might imagine Santorini or Mykonos. Those islands are beautiful, but also full of tourists. We are always looking for cultural immersion and a more authentic experience of living like a local. We also wanted the slow pace of island life with a sense of community and support for our digital nomad life. It can be hard when traveling as a family to find a balance with adventuring, connecting with community and consistency with our work. We have found the solution through Boundless Life. What is Boundless Life?
Boundless Life is a curated community of digital nomad families that live, work, learn, and play together. By immersing ourselves into local communities outside of the tourist hot spots, we can develop a deeper understanding for different cultures while maintaining a balance with our normal life routines. In addition, the boundless team takes all of the planning off of your plate and provides a seamless line into community immersion for you.
Where are we going to be?
We have chosen Syros, Greece to begin our journey and we could not be happier. Boundless currently has three locations; one in Portugal, Italy and Greece. Boundless is a new concept that is continuing to grow and evolve, so more locations will continue to be added as the company grows.
What did we pack for our three month adventure?
Boundless homes are fully furnished with everything you will need for your three month stay. This made packing super easy. We packed our favorite clothes, electronics and camera gear. We were worried about forgetting something, but Syros seems to have shops with everything we could possibly need…so it shouldn’t have even been a concern. Winters in Greece are mild, but sometimes rainy..so appropriate mid season clothing and rain gear is necessary. Ermopouli is a walkable city, so be prepared to get your steps in. Good shoes for walking are a must.
What about the kids?
As you may or may not know, we are unschoolers. The idea of the kids attending a classroom environment is very new for us. After we learned more about this outside-the-box education system, we decided to give it a shot. The Boundless Education Centre allows children from ages 1-12 to attend. Boundless Education is based on the Finnish School system with an emphasis on nature and project based learning in three month cohorts. The center combines different learning modalities and ideas, including some Montessori and Nature Based Education strategies to best meet the children where they are at. The idea is that the kids will progress at their own rates without homework or testing. The kids will learn some greek culture and language, some math and English, and work to solve sustainable development goals. This cohort they are working to end world hunger in a group setting and the kids will spend a lot of their time creatively problem solving. The children are offered numerous extra curricular activities such as greek dancing, sailing, guitar lessons, and sailing. Our kids have chosen sailing and kung fu this cohort. The teachers and the students seem to have a lot of freedom and flexibility, which is very important to us.
What about teens?
Boundless does not currently have any offerings for teenage children, but they hope to in the future. Our teen will continue his unschooling journey, work on his online business, do some fishing, and join the adults for sailing classes during this cohort.
What about work?
Boundless provides a co working hub that is meant to support the digital nomad parents in the cohorts. This is a gathering space where you can connect with other parents, but also a space to get consistent work done without distraction. You can work at a table with others, at more private desks, or in one of the many sound proof meeting rooms. Boundless provides espresso, tea, snacks, and beautiful views.
What about fun?
You might wonder with all of this work and school, will there be time to learn the local culture and have some authentic experiences? YES! Boundless organizes adventures like historical hikes, sailing lessons, cheese making tours, ect. You will find that the stress of planning is off of your plate. If you would like to explore other areas, you can take long weekends as a family or day trips to see the sites.
We have found our transition to Greek Island life to be very smooth thanks to the boundless team. They have provided us a welcome guide with everything we could possibly need to know about the island during our first week here. We are in good hands, this is one of the safest places we have traveled to, and we are enjoying the weather and culture. We cannot wait to share more as we continue to immerse ourselves in this space.
