Fulltime RVing: How To Ensure Your Safety on the Road

As fulltime RVers of 6.5 years, we’ve put a ton of miles on this RV and driven into some pretty sketchy situations. We have done a lot to ensure our safety on the road, and want to share it all with you.

1. Periodically check beneath your RV to see if you have any cracks. We noticed a hairline crack a couple of years ago and hired a mobile welder to come and repair the cracks and reinforce the leaf spring hangers + frame.

2. This is our second set of equalizers in 6.5 years. Had we called @lippert__ and ordered the appropriate parts last time, we probably wouldn’t have the leaf springs breaking as much as they have. Thankfully, we have the appropriate parts installed now! We installed the Aquaflex Equalizers from @lippert__ .

3. The leaf springs will break with age and use. Highway 10 through Louisiana has broken a couple on us😅. If you have a large RV, be sure that you you get the upgraded seven leaf double eye leaf spring. We found this only at @lippert__ and is the largest capacity for a double eye leaf spring at 4000 lbs.

While Luke has repaired many leaf springs on the side of the highway and knows how to do it, it’s not enjoyable and its time consuming. We are so grateful to be back on the road with the confidence of having a quality and durable suspension.

We recommend the first thing you do when you purchase a used RV is upgrade the suspension. It may feel nicer to make the inside pretty, but it’s not as fun sitting inside your pretty RV if you can’t drive it anywhere!
