We have been researching e-bikes for over a year now, and we have finally found a winner for our family. Different e-bike brands come with various design options and upgrades, so it can be hard to decide what is best for your family. What we were looking for in an E-Bike:
We were looking for bikes that would be sturdy and well made, but could also be modified to carry children on the back. Battery life was important to us, as well as off-road capability. Basically, we wanted a bike that could do it all and look good while doing it. It seemed impossible to find, but we ended up with a winner.

Aventon Aventure
We kept being drawn to the beautiful design of these e-bikes. Many of the e-bikes you see on the road look clunky when they have kids seats on the back and off road tires, but not Aventon. These bikes are beautifully designed with quality in mind. While we loved the look, we ultimately chose Aventon bikes for the features.
When your bike arrives in the mail:
These bikes come partially put together with an instruction manual for you to follow and finish off the rest. The instructions were very easy to follow and the bike was put together within an hour after unboxing it.
The Specs and why they are important:
45 mile average battery range: Removable Internal Lithium-ion 48V, 15Ah (720Wh)
This is going to get you adventuring out further and longer so that you can enjoy an entire day out on your ebike. This battery is rechargeable, so we just bring it inside to charge after a ride, so it is fully charged for our next adventure. The batteries come with a key lock so they can easily be popped off, but are also secure when on your bike.
Tires: 26 x 4 inch Fat Tires for off-roading in comfort:
Some people only want a bike to run errands, but we wanted something we could pick up groceries with and also go out into hard to reach areas in nature and explore. As full-time RVers, we spend a lot of time camping in remote places. The Aventon Aventure Ebike has been perfect for scouting campsites, adventuring on dirt and gravel roads, and exploring new towns.
Motor: 1130W (Peak) 750W (Sustained), 48V Brushless Rear Hub Motor with speeds up to 28 mph:
The throttle is so helpful for getting you started from a stopped position and going up steeper hills. This speed is easily adjusted with the five levels of pedal assist and gear control. Between the throttle and pedal assist, you can choose to work as hard or as little as you want. We have tested these bikes on steep gravel hills and flat paved roads with success in all situations. This motor has been powerful enough to take our family to some stunning places that we would not have been able to reach otherwise.
Weight Capacity: 400 lbs!
This was huge for us as we intended to add the Aventon Aventure rear rack and a child’s seat that we found on Amazon. This bike has been the perfect kid hauler. This payload capacity will also be important if you intend to bring coolers or backpacks on long rides. If you want to add a baby seat or trailer, Aventon has some here.
Backlit LCD Screen with app sync functionality:
We love how easy this app and LCD screen is to use. We didn’t want anything complicated, especially while adventuring with kids. We love to track our speeds and distance. You can even connect with other riders through the app!
Front suspension for comfortable rides:
This makes all the difference when you hit a pothole or root unexpectedly. We are grateful for this feature, especially when off of the paved trails and roads. Also air down those fat tires! You might not be able to go as fast, but the ride will be much smoother.
Sizing the Bike: Small, Medium and Large!
These bike come in various sizes which we think is pretty neat as we have not seen this before. This is great because you can order a bike size specific to your height. We are both tall, so we went with the large bikes. The Aventon site will help you find the perfect fit for you!
